How Young is Too Young to Get a Massage?
She's one cool and relatively mellow kid, I'm told, and I like to think I had a little something to do with that!
Mom and dad still come regularly for massage sessions, acknowledging how beneficial the therapy is for daily aches and pains associated with baby raising like sore shoulders, arms and backs, as well as how good it is for stress relief and relaxation for those who aren't necessarily getting all the sleep or restful moments they should.

Are you an avid skier? Just beginning on the bunny slopes? I have a pair of vouchers good for lift tickets on Friday, January 30th only - a $50 value! All you have to do to win them is to correctly answer the following ski trivia question:
Q: What are the five disciplines of skiing presented at the Olympic Winter Games?
A: ?
All correct entries will be put in to a pool and one winner will be selected at random and notified by email or by phone. All entries must be received by Friday, January 23rd at 5:00 pm. Enter now by clicking here to email us! Please include your name and phone numbers in your entry so I can contact you if you are the winner.
GOOD LUCK!
Mentastics® Minute

Welcome to your Mentastics Minute!
Mentastics, or mind-directed movements, are a fun and easy way to help you relax, break through holding patterns in your body, move easier and recall the feeling of a Trager session.
In each newsletter, I suggest a Mentastics movement that you can "try on" for yourself. If you have suggestions or requests for the Mentastics Minute, please send us an email.
January Roses
Recall for a moment the opening statement of this newsletter: "It is the memory that enables a person to gather roses in January." While its true that some people want to be out on the slopes all Winter long, it is as true that some people would rather be anywhere else! Does the Winter chill go straight through your bones and you can't seem to ever get warm? An all inclusive resort in the Caribbean sounds good right about now, doesn't it!
Take a moment to find a comfortable position - standing, sitting, laying down. Take a few easy breaths and acknowledge however you are feeling in the moment.
Now recall what it is like to be on the beach (if you've never been, you can use your imagination, but by all means - have a beach vacation soon!) Feel the warm sand beneath you. Feel the warmth of the sunshine on your face - on your skin. Hear the rhythm of the waves as they gently tickle and then crash upon the shore. Feel the warm breeze blow through your hair. Take a minute (or two or three) to explore your recall of the beach on a warm Summer day.
Gently, come back to the moment - to the room you are in and to your body. What do you notice about how you are feeling? Did the chill go away? is your mood lifted? Mine is! :-)

Winter Walking, Trager Style
I sent out a newsletter earlier in the week that suggested taking a walk in the snow and feeling how the light fluffiness of it all could permeate your body/mind and affect how you walk or how you feel about walking. Well, I just got back from such a walk. The snow is coming down fast here in New Paltz - a perfect opportunity to take a walk and enjoy the winter wonderland.
As I was walking with my husband, we started to play in the snow... what else would you do in the snow, afterall, but play. We started walking backwards, sideways and in zig-zags and we noticed something interesting upon walking backwards. Firstly, we noticed that in order to walk, we were using our bodies differently. A little more muscle here - a little less there - head postures changing... But what was most striking was that we could clearly see our footprints in the ankle-deep snow that we were leaving behind us (although they were really in front of us since we were walking backwards). Steve noticed that he was walking with his toes pointing inwards. I noticed that my left foot was totally straight while my right veered out to the right each time.
We both played then with walking as if our heels were leading the motion of each step and both noticed that again, it changed the way were walking and how we felt as we were walking, and all the while, just playing in the snow. Then, of course there were some impromptu sno-cones in our gloves that turned in to a minor, yet cold and wet snowball fight!
What kinds of things do you notice when you are walking in the snow today? Enjoy the exploration of playful movement in this winter wonderland.
